What is the IGCSE?


The International General Certificate of Secondary Education in English is an Advanced level exam incorporating all the language skills of Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. It is an essential requirement for entry into UK Universities and it is a recognized advanced level exam all over the world.


Students sit for IGCSE examination usually in the second or third year of Lyceum. It is a two year course, although is some cases where the level of the student is exceptional, the exam can be taken after the first year. It is advisable that students complete a two - year course . This will ensure that their vocabulary and examination technique as well as their maturity of style is well developed and that they have had time to practice and cultivate their knowledge.


Most UK universities now require a grade B and above in the IGCSE therefore students should be well prepared in order to gain as high a grade as possible in the IGCSE examination.

 

The IGCSE Examination has two levels for which the student can enter:
 

  • The Core Level of IGCSE examination is suitable for students who are expected to achieve a grade between E and C.
     
  • The Extended Level of IGCSE exam is suitable for students who are expected to obtain a grade C and above.
