Are you planning to follow an M.A course in the U.K ?
If you have completed your first degree course at a University or College in Cyprus and you are planning to continue your studies at the M.A. level in the U.K. you will need to meet the English Language requirements of UK universities. This means that if you passed your GCE or IGCSE ‘O’ Level English Language exam more than four years ago then it is not regarded as a recent assessment of your language ability. The university will therefore require a more recent assessment of your competency in the English language. Most universities will require you to sit the IELTS test to demonstrate this competency.
What is the IELTS examination?
The English Language Testing System (IELTS) is one of the most respected English Language exams and a globally recognized and valid English language assessment. It assesses English language ability in all four skills – listening, reading, writing and speaking and it is intended for people who want to work or study in countries where English is the language of communication.
Most UK universities will require students to obtain an overall score of 6.5 or 7 00 on a band scale of 1- 9. This is the equivalent to an IGCSE pass score of grade B or A.
